This
fan came out of Memphis’ oldest restaurant, THE ARCADE (on Main Street across from the old Illinois Center
Railway Station.) The fan is in its original condition with the exception of
rewiring the 3-speed choke coil and light socket. The Arcade was opened by the Zapatos Family in 1919 and is
operated today by Harry Zapatos, the grandson. The Arcade was also ELVIS PRESLEY’S favorite Memphis
restaurant as is a short walk to Beale Street where Elvis developed his
musical roots. There is a “Historic Plaque” above Elvis’ favorite end booth
at the Arcade where he spent many years eating café-style food beneath this
fan. |
